Snow strikes again!

After a hectic first week of class, in which a rush-hour snow storm caused many students to be late or not make it to class at all, we are having another storm again today, and classes have been canceled for tonight. While snow days are usually fun (!), I'm not thrilled with having two of my first three classes, with our NEW PRL students disrupted like this! Nonetheless, I realize that it's best that nobody drive on icy roads, and of course we'll adjust. I have sent students a revised game plan for this week and next week, and we'll carry on! Speaking of game plan -- GO STEELERS!

Week two -- settling in!

Hi All,

Well, if you read last week's post, you know that the first week of class was a little bit crazy with a rush hour snow storm resulting in students arriving late and some not at all. This week the weather was clear and we finally had a good, solid three-hour class to start to get to know each other and work with leadership theory. We spent some time with introductions and then moved into students' views on leadership and followership. Next we organized into groups and worked with three leadership theories. This was a terrific class -- full of energy and engagement!

More soon,
Harriet

First night of class

Well, what a crazy first night of class we had this week. The first meeting of Leadership and Ethics was on Wednesday night -- we were in the midst of a rush-hour snow storm. Four students arrived on time and the rest trickled in over the next hour! Given that this was our first class (students' first class in the program!), this made for an interesting evening! The students were just getting to meet each other (and me!). In that first class, I talk a bit about PRL in general, as well as of course, about my expectations in the class, we go over the syllabus, and do some initial work regarding "what is leadership?" Given the foundational nature of all of this, having students trickle in and knowing that some wouldn't even make it in due to bad roads and traffic, made it a challenging first night for all of us! This certainly called on us to be flexible and adaptive as we begin this PRL journey together.

Stay warm everyone!
cheers,

Back from break!

Hi All,

Sorry there has been a lapse in posting. We have been on winter break and I'm working on my dissertation, so not much blogging energy.

However, last week was orientation for new students -- what fun to meet some of our new folks! And classes begin this week. So stay tuned...

cheers,
Harriet
